At
Milltown Dental your comfort means the world to us. We can work with you to help you overcome mild to severe dental related anxiety, so your fears do not interfere with your need to receive effective dental care. One of the simplest solutions is using one of the many dental sedation techniques we offer at our office.
What are the different types of sedation techniques available?
Dr. Julie can discuss your fears and help you choose one of the following sedation methods:
- Nitrous Oxide: As already mentioned, this is commonly referred to as laughing gas. It provides calming, pain blocking effects allowing you to receive anxiety-free dental treatments. The gas is inhaled through a nose mask and instantly provides a euphoric effect. It is safe for patients of all ages. The amount of gas that you receive is monitored and controlled by the dentist to ensure your safety. You will begin to relax and will not recognize pain, so the dentist can perform your dental work while you stay completely comfortable. The effects of nitrous oxide decrease once the mask is removed so that you will be capable of leaving the office within a few minutes of your treatment without the need for someone to accompany you home.
Is dental sedation safe?
Dr. Julie is highly educated and experienced in applying sedation to her patients. We take every precaution to ensure your safety during your treatment, following the proper procedures and monitoring during dental sedation. This includes your blood oxygen level, blood pressure, temperature and heart rate. We also ensure that you are completely well and able to leave the office safely after sedation. Patients who receive sedation methods that require a drive home will not be allowed to leave the office unless they are accompanied by a loved one.
Is sedation dentistry right for me?
There are many factors to be considered when it comes to sedation dentistry. Dr. Julie recommends sedation for patients who require complicated treatments as well as those who suffer from mild to severe dental anxiety. For most adults without serious health issues, sedation dentistry is perfectly safe. However, a review of your medical history will also be considered to ensure you do not suffer from any health issues that could make dental sedation inappropriate.
We only offer Nitrous Oxide and for any other sedation, they will be referred out.
